PVD coatings can provide molds with characteristics such as high hardness, high wear resistance, low friction coefficient, and high chemical stability, and are widely used in industries such as stamping molds, die-casting molds, and injection molds.
The common PVD coating has a fatal deficiency. Although the hardness is as high as HV3000, the thickness is only 3 - 8 μm, and it adheres to the mold substrate with a hardness of HV600-700. It is similar to a thin layer of ice on a lake. Although the ice surface is hard, once the force is relatively large, it will crack because the lake water is too soft. ARJ calls this the "thin ice effect". In order to eliminate the thin ice effect, ARJ Coating has developed the DUPLEX PVD coating technology. Firstly, the mold substrate is subjected to PN plasma nitriding treatment to form a nitriding layer of up to 50-200 μm on the surface. The hardness gradually decreases from HV1200 to HV700 from the surface to the inside, thereby greatly improving the bearing capacity of the mold substrate itself.
